Instagram Update: Story Highlights May Have Their Own Tab
Get ready for another potential shake-up to your Instagram profile layout: Instagram is testing moving Story highlights from their current position above the profile grid into a dedicated profile tab.
This change aims to simplify profiles by decluttering the main display while still keeping highlights accessible. Although the redesign could make profiles cleaner, it might also reduce visibility for highlights since they’ll no longer be as prominent. On the other hand, the dedicated tab could encourage deeper profile engagement by giving users an additional section to explore.
“We’re trying to figure out a way to improve the profile and try to get more of the content above the fold and simplify it,” Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri said on an Instagram Live. He admits that the change is “contentious” and that he “might not be able to make it work.” Time will tell.
LinkedIn Gives Tips for Posting Short-Form Video in the App
LinkedIn shared new tips on optimizing short-form videos in its app, as it experiments with a full-screen, vertical video feed similar to TikTok. This move aligns with LinkedIn’s strategy to engage younger users and tap into the popularity of short-form video content, which has seen impressive growth. “Immersive video views” have increased sixfold quarter-over-quarter, and total video viewership is up 36% year-over-year, as reported by LinkedIn.
Some of the tips that LinkedIn suggests to maximize engagement on their video feed include:
- Keeping videos between 15 seconds and 2 minutes, as this length performs best.
- Adding a relevant video description.
- Always encourage sharing and comments to drive interaction.
They also shared tips on what type of content performs best, such as workplace humor (if it’s appropriate), videos that offer standalone knowledge and industry-related content.
Although this approach shows LinkedIn’s push into short-form video, it’s still an open question whether the platform has enough content suited for a TikTok-like experience.
Meta AI and Threads Pass Significant Milestone
At Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg shared that Meta AI is on track to become the leading generative AI assistant worldwide. He highlighted a significant achievement during the latest earnings call: Meta AI has reached over 500 million users, just a year after its debut.
Zuckerberg expressed confidence that the company will become the most-used generative AI assistant by the end of 2024. Meta AI is not the only contributor to the company’s growth. Zuckerberg noted that AI enhancements in feed and video recommendations have led to a 5% rise for Instagram this year and an 8% increase in time spent on Facebook.
Advertisers are also capitalizing on these advancements, creating more than 15 million ads with generative AI in the past month alone. “There’s significant potential for further growth,” Zuckerberg remarked.
Meanwhile, Meta’s Threads app continues to thrive, now attracting nearly 275 million monthly users. According to Zuckerberg, Threads is gaining over a million new sign-ups each day, and user engagement is also on the rise.
