Motion Recognizes 2024 Chicago Women of Impact Award Winner

The 2024 International Women’s Day theme, “Inspire Inclusion,” underscores the significance of creating environments where women from various backgrounds feel valued and empowered. True inclusion involves embracing women’s diversity in terms of race, age, ability, faith, body image and identity across all sectors worldwide.

Alexandra Sossa, recipient of Motion’s fourth annual “Women of Impact Award,” epitomizes this theme.

Serving as the Executive Director of the Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project (FLAP), Alexandra has been a stalwart advocate for diversity in Illinois for over 25 years. Through her leadership, FLAP has become synonymous with inclusivity, particularly in supporting diverse Latin communities. With over three decades of experience in community outreach, Alexandra has tirelessly championed the rights of low-income Latin immigrants, drawing from her extensive background in public service. Her work with coffee plantation workers in Colombia and collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office showcase her commitment to empowering marginalized communities.

She recalls helping a young female farmworker escape sexual abuse by a farm owner. Today, that survivor is an attorney in California, a testament to Alexandra’s unwavering dedication.

“My commitment isn’t just professional,” Alexandra states, “it’s personal! My father, an attorney, fought valiantly for low-income workers, specifically for farmworkers’ rights. His memory lives on through my own work. My mother, a retired judge, and her whole family are great supporters of low-income workers. This combined legacy inspires my firm dedication to improv working conditions and opportunities for low-wage workers”.

Established in 2020, the “Women of Impact Award” celebrates women who challenge norms in marketing, advertising, public relations and communications. Alexandra’s personalized approach to engaging stakeholders illustrates how passion for one’s work can inspire others.

Congratulations Alexandra! We applaud your impact and welcome you to a distinguished cohort of past recipients renowned for their exceptional contributions to both their organizations and communities.
